Curatorial Studio, Glasgow School of Art
The starting point for the workshop is an on-going excavation of Read My Lips: New York AIDS Polemics, an exhibition curated by Nicola White at Tramway, Glasgow, in 1992. Read My Lips organised examples of AIDS cultural activism under the principle of the polemic, an excessive yet marginal form of public speech. Departing from the ideas of authorship and address that such a curatorial strategy signals toward, the workshop will go on explore modes of writing (and thinking) about exhibitions and artworks that foreground the inappropriately excessive, the politically marginal and which centre the self through the use of testimony and anecdote.
